SUMMARY:


The Natural Sciences Tutor is a multifaceted position focused on providing academic support, guidance, and mentorship to students in the Natural Sciences at Temple College. The tutor will work closely with their assigned course faculty to coordinate programs which create a sense of belonging and foster academic success for students. The tutor provides leadership and vision to the academic experience and fosters the holistic development of students. The tutor will actively serve as a content expert, mentor, and provide one-on-one support to students in the assigned class.


The tutor will work with students in an online and/or face-to-face course. Tutors will work with faculty to design and implement supplemental materials for students.


*This is a grant funded position that will end on or before September 30, 2023

Qualifications (Required and Preferred)


MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS):


Successful completion of the course to which they will tutor as well as the ability to organize and develop supplemental tutoring/materials for enrolled students.


PREFERRED:


Prior tutoring experience.

Job Duties and Responsibilities


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will:
  • Work with students in one-on-one and small group settings to provide academic support.
  • Assist students with developing study skills and understanding course content.
  • Work collaboratively with the professor to develop and implement supplemental materials to support student learning.
  • Provide feedback to administrators to facilitate the development of the college-wide embedded tutor program
  • Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required.
  • Communicate regularly with the professor to stay informed about student progress and course expectations.
  • Maintain accurate records of student interactions and progress.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Primarily light physical activity is required with occasional lifting and manipulation of objects up to 25 pounds. Keyboarding and computer use. Use of audio/visual devices.


WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is normally performed in an office setting during normal college hours of operation; however, some evenings and weekends may be required.

TEMPLE COLLEGE BENEFITS
  • PAYROLL: Employees are paid by direct deposit through the last working day of the month. Wages for 16-week semesters are paid evenly over four months, and eight-week semesters are paid evenly over two months, with the first deposit occurring on the last working day of the first full month of the semester. Actual deposits are paid on the last working business day of the month. All benefit deductions are taken at that time.
  • RETIREMENT: Temple College is one of the few community colleges in the state of Texas to be permitted Federal Social Security deductions. Temple College is a Section 218 employer.
