Job Title: Accounts Receivable (AR) Manager Department: Finance Location: Kalamazoo, MI Position Type: Full-time Reports To: Director of Finance Job Summary The Accounts Receivable (AR) Manager will oversee the institution's accounts receivable processes. This role involves managing student accounts, ensuring timely billing and collection of tuition and fees, and maintaining accurate financial records. The AR Manager will work closely with other departments to support financial planning and provide exceptional service to students and their families. Key Responsibilities Billing and Invoicing: Oversee the preparation and distribution of tuition and fee invoices. Ensure accuracy and timeliness in billing procedures. Collection Management: Manage collection activities for past-due accounts. Develop and implement collection strategies to minimize overdue balances. Coordinate with collection agencies as necessary. Student Accounts: Maintain and update student account records. Address and resolve inquiries related to student billing and payments. Provide financial counseling to students and families regarding payment options. Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze AR reports for management. Reconcile accounts receivable balances and ensure accurate financial reporting. Policy Development: Develop and enforce AR policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as institutional policies. Team Leadership: Supervise AR staff, including training, development, and performance evaluation. Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment. Collaboration: Work closely with the Registrar, Financial Aid, and other departments to ensure seamless financial operations. Participate in cross-departmental projects and initiatives to improve financial processes. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree or CPA certification is preferred. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounts receivable or related financial roles. Experience in a higher education setting is highly desirable. Skills: Strong understanding of accounting principles and AR practices. Proficiency in financial software and systems (e.g., Banner, PeopleSoft, or similar). Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to lead and motivate a team. Personal Attributes: High degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Customer service-oriented with a commitment to helping students and families.
